Annular Cutters - Thanet Tool Supplies
An annular cutter which is often also called a slug cutter or a broach cutter is a form of "core" drill used to create holes in metal.
An annular cutter is named after the annulus shape, cuts only a groove at the periphery of the hole and leaves a solid core or slug at the center.
Annular cutters are used with a magnetic drilling machine both for their stability against high torque forces created by such a drill bit and lower RPMs compared to other types of drills.
Due to the unique geometry of the annular cutters, making holes at awkward angles is also very easy.
M2 (HSS) Standard Cutters are the most widely used to drill Mild and Structural steel, Aluminium.
M42 (HSS Cobalt) are harder wearing cutters as they are manufactured using M42 (8% Cobalt) Steel. M42 cutters are used to drill thicker section Structural steel and Stainless steel.
The most common name known in the metal working industry is Rotabroach.
Rotabroach are also now manufacturing Carbide and dedicated Rail Cutters in addition to M2 and M42 cutters.
