It is a water-based product with a high-concentration of Glycerin, an FDA approved skin protector. When applied to the skin, Glycerin effectively pulls in and retains moisture within the layers of the skin. Additionally, O'Keeffe's Working Hands contains Allantoin, a skin protector derived from the Comfrey plant. It helps to remove dead skin cells, thus allowing better penetration of moisturising ingredients. The 3 step process is
- First, O'Keeffe's products hydrate the skin with both water and glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant which draws moisture to itself at a molecular level causing hydration of the skin. Hydration is the process of replacing lost cellular water. This is vital because only hydrated cells are capable of repairing themselves.
- Secondly, O'Keeffe's products trap that moisture at the cellular level with two occlusive agents, stearic acid and paraffin. These highly effective ingredients prevent evaporation of the hydrating compounds and water.
- Thirdly, O'Keeffe's products alter the pH in the dermis layer of the skin causing the chemoreceptors to sense this change. These receptors react by activating the body's own powerful repair cycle.
